Mitsubishi Developing Hybrid Version of 1917 Model A
As we explored in our last blog post, Mitsubishi Motors is celebrating its 100 th anniversary this year. In celebration of this remarkable milestone, Mitsubishi is embarking on quite an unusual yet exciting project – a plug-in hybrid version of the 1917 Model A, the very first car that Mitsubishi ever produced. With the help of West Coast Customs, the California auto shop made famous on the MTV series Pimp My Ride, Mitsubishi is hoping to bring this 20 th century relic towards the cutting edge of 21 st century automotive technology. While the updated Model A will physically resemble the original 1917 version, its platform will be based on the Mitsubishi Outlander Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV), which itself is not yet available in the United States. The original Model A ran on a 2.8 liter, 4-cylinder engine with just 35 horsepower, but the new PHEV engine comes to 119 horsepower and will include two electric motors and a 12-kilowatt hour lithium-ion battery pack. These two motors will give the vehicle a smooth four-wheel drive, with one motor powering the front wheels while the other powers the back. Despite its distinction as Mitsubishi’s first production car, the Model A wasn’t particularly successful when it first came out 100 years ago – in fact, only 22 were built between 1917 and 1921, including prototypes. Hopefully Mitsubishi will get the opportunity to make at least a few more once this PHEV version is completed, which is expected to be sometime this summer. We may not have the Model A PHEV quite yet, but in the meantime you should stop by Peruzzi Mitsubishi and check out some of Mitsubishi’s other exciting vehicles. We have an incredible selection of both new and certified pre-owned Mitsubishi vehicles in stock, such as the 2017 Outlander or the 2015 Lancer Evolution. Happy 100th Anniversary Mitsubishi!
Congratulations to Mitsubishi Motors, which is celebrating its 100 th Anniversary as an automotive company this year! Founded in 1870 by Yataro Iwasaki, Mitsubishi was originally established as a shipping firm. In an effort to compete with the great technological advancements of the time, however, the company introduced its first motor vehicle, the Mitsubishi Model-A, in 1917. The Mitsubishi Model-A was Japan’s first series-production automobile. Following its great success, the company achieved another automotive first with the creation of the Mitsubishi PX33 in 1937, which was Japan’s first passenger car with four-wheel drive. Following the end of World War II in 1945, Mitsubishi Motors resumed its production of automobiles, and despite Japan’s struggling post-war economy, the company still managed yet another triumphant success with the creation of the Mitsubishi 500. In 1962, the Mitsubishi 500 set a new course record at the Macau Grand Prix, scoring the growing company yet another victory. Hoping to expand its reach in overseas markets, Mitsubishi joined forces with American automotive group Chrysler during the 1970s to bring its cars to America. Chrysler sold the Mitsubishi Galant as the Dodge Colt, which proved itself to be a huge success for both Mitsubishi and Chrysler. By 1982, Mitsubishi Motors was ready to be introduced independently to the American market, and in 1989, the company introduced the Galant VR-4, which went on to win Motor Trend’s Import Car of the Year. With more than 40 years of American success under its belt and a century of producing quality automobiles, Mitsubishi continues to amaze. Come celebrate by taking a trip to Peruzzi Mitsubishi and seeing for yourself the results of Mitsubishi’s 100 years of innovation. Whether you're looking for a new or used Mitsubishi vehicle, Peruzzi Mitsubishi has a tremendous inventory of both types of vehicles. Mitsubishi Experiments with Driverless Technology
This past March, Mitsubishi Electronics unveiled new technology to advance the development of self-driving cars. The tech allows vehicles to automatically map landscapes and then transition between areas. The system uses artificial intelligence and Mitsubishi’s Mobile Mapping System (MMS). The maps will be incredibly precise and offer data about streets and nearby objects, and be able to update in real time to adjust for traffic lights, other cars and more. The MMS collects the data through scanners, a GPS and cameras, and the A.I. accesses it. Many self-driving cars rely on old map and GPS data for navigation. These vehicles, however, run into difficulties when other vehicles unexpectedly get too close or you drive on to a small dirt roads that might not be in the GPS data bank. Although Mitsubishi will use some of this same information, their new features will allow their driverless cars to form a map 10x faster than competitors and still be cheaper. This is far from the first time Mitsubishi has experimented with autonomous driving technology. For a number of years, Mitsubishi Electric has made self-driving cars their priority by reusing existing technology. For example, the company took the guiding equipment it helped create for Japanese missiles and applied it to their cars a few years ago. Mitsubishi hopes that by 2020 it will be able to sell these autonomous driving systems to markets around the world. Mitsubishi is dedicated to innovation. Their latest models use state-of-the-art technology to give you an incredible driving experience. Come to Peruzzi Mitsubishi today and experience one of these vehicles for yourself. With over 200 new vehicles, you’re sure to find a cutting-edge model that perfectly suits your needs. Contact Peruzzi Mitsubishi today!
