How to Rotate Your Tires
Your four tires work hard to get you where you’re going. Rotating them keeps them healthy, reducing some of the wear and tear. By rotating them every 5,000 miles or so, you’ll help them wear evenly. And not for nothing, many tire warranties require regular rotation. Does rotating your tires sound overwhelming? It’s not. The experts at Peruzzi Mitsubishi offer these insights.
First, understand that each vehicle may have a different rotation requirement, depending on whether it’s a front-wheel, all-wheel or four-wheel drive. Check your owner’s manual for your car’s designated rotation; it may be a simple front-to-rear, or your tires may need to go in an X/diagonal pattern.
Start by putting your parking brake in the on position. Spray the lug nuts on each tire with a penetrating oil, and let it sit for at least 15 minutes.
Jack up one corner of your car, and use a lug wrench to remove the first wheel. Ensure that the lug nuts on the wheel are easily accessible. Repeat this with the rest of the tires.
Now that all the tires are off, take this chance to clean any brake/dust crud that may have built up, using a wire brush to remove it.
Depending on your vehicle’s rotation pattern, swap out the tires. Tighten up the lug nuts, using a torque wrench. Check your owner’s manual for the appropriate specs on how tight they should be.
Rotating your tires doesn’t have to be a big deal. And regular attention can pay off in increased efficiency and safety of your vehicle. Got questions? Tips for Safe Winter Driving
When the weather outside is frightful, it’s best to stay safely indoors. But face it: we all have to do our share of driving in wintry weather, so pay attention to these tips, courtesy of the experts at Peruzzi Mitsubishi.
Start with the basics: before heading out, check that you have enough gas in the tank, your cell phone is charged and that your tires are properly inflated. And every car should always carry the following: road flares, jumper cables, a first-aid kit, spare tire with jack and tire iron, and an extra charger for your phone just in case.
During winter months, throw a blanket, extra water, and some snacks in the trunk. Depending on where you live, and how icy or snowy things tend to get, adding a small shovel and a few bags of cheap kitty litter may also prove helpful in getting traction off of a tough icy patch.
Winter driving means go slow: it takes longer to slow down on snow-or-ice-slicked roadways. For that same reason, don’t use cruise control or the parking brake on slippery surfaces. When faced with a hill, give yourself time to build up some momentum; once you’re on that hill, keep steady pressure on the gas.
If you do get stuck, slow and steady acceleration is the best route to getting out of it. Of course, if you can’t break free, it’s safer to remain with your car (this is where that charged cell phone comes in handy). Stick a bright piece of cloth on the antenna or in the window crack to attract attention; ensure that your tailpipe isn’t blocked by snow to avoid carbon monoxide poisoning.
Lastly, if you have to drive a long distance in the winter, let someone know where you’re going and an ETA for when you should get there. Happy (and safe) driving!

How to Jump Start a Vehicle
Although vehicle battery durability, and reliability has gotten much better, you may still find yourself in the position of needing a jump start at some point in your life. If you’ve ever been stranded with a dead car battery and without a way to jump it or without knowing how, you know how frustrating it can be. So regardless of battery improvements, you should learn the proper way to jump start a vehicle either for yourself or another driver you may be helping. Follow these simple instructions to learn the proper way to jump start a vehicle.
- Turn both vehicles off first and pop the hoods of both vehicles. Find the batteries in both vehicles and identify the positive and negative terminals on each.
- Connect one of the red positive jumper cable clamps to the dead battery’s red positive post.
- Connect the other red positive jumper cable clamp to the live battery’s red positive post.
- Connect the black negative jumper cable clamp from the same end as the already connected red clamp to the black negative post of the live battery.
- Connect the other black negative cable clamp to a clean, unpainted metal surface under the hood of the vehicle with the dead battery. It’s very important that you do not connect the negative clamp to the negative post of the dead battery because a spark could ignite resulting in a battery explosion.
- Start the vehicle with the live battery and allow it to run for five minutes with the jumper cables connected. This will allow some time for the dead battery to charge up. After five minutes, attempt to start the vehicle with the dead battery. If the vehicle won’t start, you may have to reposition the clamp that’s attached to the unpainted metal surface for better contact. You may also try racing the engine of the vehicle with the live battery to deliver more amperage.
- Once the engine of the dead battery vehicle has started, disconnect the jumper cables in the reverse order they were connected.
- Drive the vehicle with the previously dead battery round for a time before turning the vehicle off to allow the battery to charge.
Although jump starting a battery is a task that some people fear, once you try it once for yourself you will see that it is very simple and intuitive. You should always carry jumper cables in your vehicle so that you can jump your own car or help someone else with jumping theirs if the need arises. When your vehicle is running smoothly again, it might be a good idea to take it to a service center to determine if there is anything wrong with your battery that caused it to lose its charge. The service experts at Peruzzi Mitsubishi can take a look at your vehicle under the hood and diagnose and fix any problems, including battery issues. Make an appointment with our Levittown and Trenton area service center today and make sure your vehicle stays running in working condition. How to Check the Oil Level of Your Vehicle
Oil is an essential component for keeping your engine running smoothly. It reduces the friction and maintaining proper oil levels can prevent many vehicle problems. You should check the oil level of your vehicle once per month to make sure that there is enough oil present and that it is not contaminated. If the oil in vehicle is visibly dirty or smells like gasoline, it’s probably time to replace it. You should also be checking the level of oil with your car’s dipstick. The process for testing your oil level and quality is very simple.
- Remove the dipstick and wipe it on a clean rag. Make sure your vehicle has been off for at least ten minutes before you check the oil. This will ensure that the engine is cold. The location of your oil dipstick depends on what type of engine you have. If you have a rear-wheel drive engine, it will probably be somewhere near the engine around the middle of the area under your hood. If you have a front-wheel drive engine, the dip stick will probably be located somewhere near the front of the area under the hood. If you’re having trouble finding the dip stick, check your vehicle’s owners manual.
- Insert the dipstick back into the pipe. If you are unable to insert the stick the entire way in, rotate it. The pipe is curved so the stick might not be able to fit if came out the opposite way.
- Take the dipstick out again and look at the oil left on the end. The level of the oil will probably fall somewhere between “Add” and “Full”. If the level is full, or close to full, you don’t have to worry about adding any oil. If the level is at or near the add line, you should add some oil to the tank. You don’t have to add it to the same tube you used the dipstick in. There should be a screw-off cap somewhere on your engine that may even be labeled as “Oil Cap”. It may even tell you what grade of oil you should be using in the engine. Unscrew this cap and add as much oil as needed.
- Test the quality of the oil. It can be difficult to tell if oil is dirty based purely on color. Oil turns black quickly and this may not always be a sign that it needs replacing. Try rubbing a small amount between your fingers. If the oil leaves a smudge of dirt on your fingers, it probably needs to be changed.
If you’ve noticed your oil level is low or your oil is dirty, you can contact the professionals at Peruzzi Mitsubishi to help you replace your oil or add oil to your tank. You can also stop by our Mitsubishi service center and we can perform both of these tests for you as part of our preventative car maintenance and inspection. We can also check for other problems and take care of any problems as needed such as replacing oil filters, brake repair, engine diagnostic services, and much more. Safety Features of the 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander
Last time we talked about the safety ratings of the 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander, and a lot of those ratings are thanks to the incredible top-of-the-line safety features found in the Outlander. Safety features of a vehicle should be one of the most important factors you look at when buying a car, especially if you’re going to trust one with transporting your family. Mitsubishi packs the 2018 Outlander with features that will ensure you can have peace of mind when you take it out on the road.
Adaptive Cruise Control and Forward Collision Mitigation
Mitsubishi’s Adaptive Cruise Control system uses radar technology to judge distances between you and the vehicle ahead, helping you maintain a safe driving distance. If the car in front of you moves out of your lane or goes beyond your set speed, the intuitive system will adapt and readjust to whatever speed you have set. It’s a great feature that means less breaking and less wear and tear on your vehicle.
Using similar technology, the Forward Collision Mitigation system uses laser radar and cameras to determine if a frontal collision is imminent. If so, it warns you with audio and visual signals and automatically provides braking to try to reduce the severity of the collision or avoid it altogether if possible.
Rear Cross Traffic Alert
When you’re backing up, sometimes it can be difficult to see an approaching vehicle coming from the side behind you. The Rear Cross Traffic Alert system will show warning lights on both side mirrors, play a buzzer sound to alert you and send a warning message to the information screen of the color multi-information display.
Blind Spot Warning and Lane Change Assist
These two features work together to alert you when a vehicle is in or approaching your blind spot. When a vehicle is in the lane next to you and traveling at the same speed or faster, a warning light will illuminate on the corresponding side mirror. If your turn signal is on, the system will also beep three times to alert you that it’s unsafe to change lanes.
We’ve outlined just some of the most important safety features in the 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander, but there are many more. Mitsubishi is committed to keeping you and your family safe when you take your vehicle out for a ride and the features of the 2018 Outlander reflect that.
